Open and resize background photo and edge effect to similar proportions |

Image>Image Size... |

| Stay at or above 150dpi for all projects you plan to print. | |
Drag edge from Layers Palette onto background photo |
|
Drag the edge image onto background. |
|
| Holding Shift will place the edge in the center of your work area. | |
Scale the edge to fit the layout and desired position |
|
Edit>Free Transform |
|
| Holding Shift will constrain the proportions of the edge. | |
Drag your photo from the Layers palette above the edge layer |
|
Examine your Layers Palette |
|
You should have a Background, Layer 1-the edge, and Layer 2-your photo |
|
Create the "edge effect" |
|
Make sure your photo layer is highlighted in the Layers Palette and Create Clipping Mask |

Layer>Create Clipping Mask |
|
| Your photo will take on the roughened appearance of the photo edge. | |
Add Type |
|
Select the Text Tool from the tool palette |
|
Add Ornaments |
|
Load the resource Photoshop Custom Shape file. Select the file from your Hard Disk. |

Select the Custom Shape of choice from the Shape Picker |
|
Click and drag to create the shape. |
|
| Holding shift constrains the proportions of the shape. | |
Add the second ornament to the layout |
|
Adjust the Blend Mode |
|
Select the new ornament layer in the Layers Palette. Choose Overlay from the drop down menu. |
|
| Experiment with Blend Modes for different effects. Colored layers will give more variations than grayscale layers. | |
Save the file. |
