* Masking Color into a Faux Grayscale Image
* Creating a 4x8 Photo Card
* Select the "Colored" area using the pen tool
Make sure "Paths" is selected in the Pen Tool options bar
wedge Load path as selection in the Paths palette and Invert the Selection
* Select>Inverse
wedge Create a Gradient Map of the selected area
* Click the Adjustment Layer icon in the tool bar at the bottom of the Layers palette
wedge Edit the Layer mask
* To reveal more color, select the Layer mask thumbnail in the Layers palette. Set Black as the foreground color in the color picker, select the brush tool and paint in the areas you wish to color.
wedge Add Type layers
* Select the Text tool from the Tool palette and type in your message.
wedge Add Drop Shadow layer style to name
* Click the Layer Style icon in the Layers palette. Check Drop Shadow and set your options for the shadow.
wedge Create a Layer Group of all layers to drag and drop into a New File
* Hold Shift and select all Layers or Layer Groups in the Layers palette. Click the options tab in the Layers palette and select New Group from Layers... . Name the New Group and click OK.
* Create a New 4x8-inch Document
wedge Drag and drop a background image
* Open a background image. Drag the background from the Layers palette into the New 4x8 File.
Hold Shift to drop the background in the center of the image
wedge Drag and drop a Photo Edge
* Open a Photo Edge file and drag and drop into the New 4x8 image as described above. Rotate the Photo Edge into place and scale it to size, Edit>Free Transform.
* Drag the Layer Group Photo (your original photo) into the New 4x8 image
wedge Merge the Gradient Map layer and the original photo layer
* Select the Gradient Map layer and the original photo layer by holding Shift. Layer>Merge Layers. Now the two layers have become one composite layer.
Merging Layers combines multiple layers into one layer. Make sure to save a copy of your previous work, if you think you'll want to go back to it.
* Drag the Photo Edge layer into the Layer Group behind the original photo
wedge Create a Clipping Mask
* Select the original photo layer and go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask. Position photo and type within the Photo Edge to complete the effect.
* Save the file.
